Tech giant Facebook is preparing to launch its first smartwatch in the summer of 2022. This comes after its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg’s plans for the company to be more customer centric and build more consumer devices. We know that the company is working on wrist based devices and earlier this year, the company launched its first wrist based device which is about developing Augmented Reality (AR) technologies. The is not the company’s first mobile product either, as it partnered up with HTC in 2012 to make the HTC first phone. Apart from Oculus and Portal Plus, Facebook had never launched any gadget until today and now, it plans to venture onto the smartwatch market.
In terms of pricing of the smartwatch that is to be launched, it will launch around Rs 29,000 though nothing is confirmed yet. The smartwatch will boast two cameras, front and back, and the rear camera which can be detached from the wrist for clicking pictures which of course, will be shareable on Facebook and Instagram right from the watch itself. The front camera of the watch will support video calling services and the rear camera will have auto-focus feature and 1080p recording capabilities.
As most people use smartwatches as part of their fitness regime to track their health, this device is also expected to have an inbuilt heart rate monitor. It is expected to be marketed as a fitness device with lavish features of video calling and 1080p cameras. According to the verge, the tech giant has partnered up with other companies in order to create the accessories required for the watch. It is also planning to partner up with network companies in the US so that the smartwatch can support LTE connectivity and will no longer be required to connect to a smartphone at all times.
Due to Facebook‘s problematic record of collecting their users’ data and privacy policies, there will be a little hesitancy from some people in buying and using this smartwatch as they might not feel comfortable with the idea of two cameras, front and back.
