The Apple iMac that everyone was talking about is finally here! Since the past 2 months, everyone is talking about this new Mac. On the 4th of August, this new 27-inch iMac was launched, surprising all the tech-savvies who were waiting for it.
Also, I would want to make you all aware that, the Face ID that we talked about in the last article will not be featured on this device. Tthis would rather be featured next year according to an article on Tech Aedgar.
Anyways moving forward with the specification of the new iMac!
Starting off with what’s inside, Apple will still run on an Intel Processor. This would be the Intel’s 10th Gen Comet Lake processors. The hexa-core version would be standard in the 21-inch model but in the 27-inch iMac model, the fast 10-core i9, will now clock a high-speed of 5.0GHz.
The 21.5-inch model comes with AMD Radeon Pro 500X series graphics whereas the 27-inch iMac model brings AMD Radeon Pro 5000 series graphics with up to 16GB of GDDR6 memory.
For the internal storage, Apple will now be using SSDs instead of their regular Fusion Drives. They will be 256GB in the base configs. If the users require more storage, they can upgrade their computer with a 1TB Fusion Drive. If, by any chance, that 1TB is not enough for you, you can opt for a bigger SSD which can go all the way up to a massive 8TB! Apple says the SSDs should support up to 3.4Gbps read/write speeds
The SD card reader will still be present on the new iMac. This is now upgraded to support UHS-II speeds.
The webcam upgrade would be one of the feature updates to look out for. It would be upgrading from a low-resolution of 720p to a high-resolution of 1080p sensors. Moreover, the new T2 chip enables some new features such as exposure control, tone mapping and face detection.
T2 Chip Features
The T2 chip would not bring any new unlock methods such as Face ID but it will improve other features of the Mac. The chip will allow support for “Hey Siri.” The audio controller will have an improved audio bass and fidelity at lower volumes. It will also allow the computer to auto adjust the brightness according to your surrounding just like mobile phones.
All these features are not due to change in hardware but just because the inclusion of T2 chip. This is how transforming this chip is!
The Nano –texture glass will scatter the reflection of light and give you a clear view. This would benefit the people who work under sunlight, direct light or changing light conditions. Unlike typical Matt display coatings, the nano-texture is etched into the glass at the manometer level. This reduces glare while preserving contrast, for jaw-dropping image quality.
All the astonishing features are of the 27-inch iMac model which would be starting at a price of Rs 1,69,900 (Check). The 21-inch iMac model on the other hand would start at a price of Rs 99,999 (Check).
The iMac this time round might have the fast 10—core processor but it is almost the same as the last version. According to whatever rumours were going around, this device is nowhere near them. Apple claims that the 27-inch iMac would run some software 20%-65% faster but aren’t the Apple Macs already smooth? Personally, I would skip buying the Mac this year because next year something big is going to happen according to the new rumours.
*Face detection does not mean Face ID. It just means that in video conferences, your face would be detected by default. You can test this features for example by changing your background in most of the video conferencing applications
