Samsung Electronics today introduced its first-ever smallest 0.64 micrometre (µm) pixel image sensor, with 50MP resolution, the Samsung ISOCELL JN1. As per company’s claims it is equipped with cutting edge technology, including improved ISOCELL 2.0, Smart ISO & Double Super PDAF.
Duckhyun Chang, Executive VP of the sensor business at Samsung Electronics said that, “Samsung’s advanced pixel technologies have once again pushed boundaries with the utmost precision to develop an image sensor with the industry’s smallest pixel size, yet with powerful performance. The new ISOCELL JN1 at 0.64μm will be able to equip tomorrow’s sleekest smartphones with ultra-high resolution mobile photographs.”
Samsung ISOCELL JN1 is the latest high-resolution image sensor by the company, which sports ISOCELL 2.0 technology. These two coupled with enhanced technology will augment light sensitivity by a total of 16%.
Samsung ISOCELL JN1, gets even better in low-light surroundings, i.e., in low light surroundings the latest sensor will employ Samsung’s Tetrapixel technology. Tetrapixel, i.e., Samsung’s four-to-one pixel binning technology integrates four adjoining 0.64µm pixels into one big 1.28μm-pixel to augment light sensitivity by four times for brighter 12.5MP photographs.
Further, Samsung’s JN1 comes with Smart ISO technology, which will take your photography experience to yet another level. Smart ISO technology is known for utilizing Low ISO mode in bright settings to retain detail in the highlights, and High ISO in low-lit surroundings to reduce readout noise and generate excellent low-light performance. Plus, Smart ISO coupled with ISOCELL JN 1, using High-Low ISOs & generate a final optimized image by merging all aspects.
Integrated with Double Super PDAF, ISOCELL JN 1 offers faster auto focus. As mentioned by the company, “Double Super PD features 2X density of pixels (1/16) used for phase detection than Super PD (1/32), enabling the same auto-focus performance even in environments with about 60-percent less illumination levels.”
On top of all these features Samsung has partnered with ecosystem enthusiasts techs, to make ISOCELL JN 1 well-suited prevailing 1/2.8-inch products. This is done to ensure that ISOCELL JN 1 could be used for various camera options including front-facing, ultra-wide or telephoto cameras, along with standard wide camera options.
In a nutshell, this will enable users to take precise selfies or even group pictures with a 50 MP HD image sensor, and enjoy crystal clear HD videos with 4K at 60fps & 1080p at 240fps with HR zoom.
Smaller image sensor, will offer an effective cut down in camera module, reducing the camera bulge, to deliver more sleek, slim & streamlined designs for future smart devices.
Duckhyun Chang, Executive VP at Samsung also said that “As we drive our commitment to innovation in pixel technologies, we will continue to bring a wide range of mobile image sensor offerings to the market.”
The amazing feature of ISOCELL JN1 is its abundance of features, locked inside a small 1/2.76-inch optical format, which makes ISOCELL JN1 to be the most versatile image sensor Samsung has developed so far.
At present, Samsung has ordered mass production of its ISOCELL JN1 image sensor.
